Apologies for the recent dearth of Slim Volumes!
As some of you will know, after many fruitful years with Slim Chance, Alun Davies has departed the band to graze in other pastures. Apart from anything else this has affected the regularity of our Slim Volumes! However, we all wish him well in the twin realms of life and music. His place has been taken by other members of the Slim Chance extended family, including Geraint Watkins, and the plan is to do more gigs with the hugely talented Des Horsfall in future. Des, whose own band is aptly called ‘Kuschty Rye’, is a great singer steeped in the musical tradition that Ronnie stood for and has a very interesting album coming up featuring songs written by him with Katie Lane, abetted by one Peter Townshend, and, as it so happens, the Fishpool Philharmonic. Our next gig will be at the Half Moon, Putney
, still one of our favourite venues, on May 2nd. The band will feature Geraint and Des as well as other regulars, and so will be a great show case this new version of Slim Chance. Rest assured the band will be firing on all cylinders as usual, and we hope to see you there. Some tickets are still available. After that there’s the Lead Belly Fest at the Albert Hall
on June 15th, which promises to be a fascinating event featuring Van Morrison, Eric Burdon, Billy Bragg and Ruby Turner (besides ourselves!). And then on to Cornbury
, if you fancy a nice day or two out in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside. (Not quite Shropshire, but it’ll do!)
That’s by no means the end of the story. There’s other very interesting stuff happening, including great progress on our own next album, and planned ventures up north for in the year. Please be patient and another Slim Volume should come jumping off the presses before too long. Meanwhile we wish you all a wonderful summer.
